Compro Oro’s latest single which will feature on the forthcoming album this autumn is titled – ‘Lalibela’, released via Belgium based record label – Sdban Ultra. A heady, bass-laden mover and shaker, the track explores traditional Latin and Cuban rhythms intermingled with wild guitar riffs and exotic vibraphone infusions.
Sdban Records is an independent record label, obsessed with grooves. Based in Ghent, Belgium, it is home to such artists as De Beren Gieren, BRZZVLL, Steiger, Black Flower and STUFF.
Compro Oro’s wayward and psychedelic approach to a broad range of sounds – from Ethiopian Jazz to Afro-Cuban, has gained them a devoted fan base since the band’s formation in 2014.
On ‘Lalibela’, band leader Wim Segers adds, “The Cuban tinge is still there, but thanks to Bart Vervaeck and saxophonist Nathan Daems (of Black Flower fame) I’ve discovered Arab and Turkish music. I’ve learned to embrace my own neighbourhood. When you live in this part of Ghent, Eastern rhythms are the beat of the street.”
