One of London’s most respected figures in the underground jazz music scene steps up for the 70th installment of the reputable DJ Kicks series. Henry Wu’s breakthrough EP in 2015,Good Morning Peckham through Peckham based label, Rhythm Section caught the attention of many selectors and publications
However, it’s been the work as Kamaal Williams, the pseudo alias for his live performances, which has in the past few years catapulted his music across world.
Speaking on his DJ Kicks album he writes, “The main aim of this mix for me was to give praise and pay my dues to the forefathers, the originators London’s underground scene. From the likes of Dego, Seiji and Steve Spacek, through to contemporaries like K15, Tenderlonious or myself, it’s about connecting the lineage and giving respect to the creators – those undervalued heroes of this British dance landscape who deserve more recognition today.”
