New annual reports which reveal sales figures for some of UK’s biggest stars, from Sam Smith, to the Rolling Stones show a record £1.1Bn in sales from last year. This in turn, help drive the UK’s economy, with the addition of British music sales overseas, as well as money spent of food and accommodation overseas by music tourist – to £5.3Bn in 2018

Baring these figures in mind and the positive contribution the music industry has been having to the UK economy. It’s important that more is done to keep live music spaces open for growing musicians to help nurture the music scene, and keep live shows happening.

The financial sales don’t reflect the financial instabilities of most musicians, and it would be in the government best interests during this process of brexit to help maintain live music spaces for musicians, in regards to travelling musicians gaining visas and work permit
