Paris-Martinquais Chassol has written for the likes of Frank Ocean for his most recent album, Blonde, after receiving a tip off from electronic music producer and DJ, Diplo. Following this, after firstly having his music shazm’ed by the wonderfully talented Solange,he went on to work on her defying album – ‘When I Get Home’.
His latest single, 1&2 Rollercoaster will feature in his forthcoming album Luds which is set to be released 6th March. Speaking about making the video Chassol says; “We first tried to get on the ride with our sound engineer wearing a big black trench hiding his mics, but were instantly kicked off by security….so my cousin & I went back 2 days later with a hidden GoPro and were able to do 2 rides before they saw us filming on their cameras….They chased us for 10 mins after that….but didn’t get us….that was epic. As for the music, I wanted to pay homage to The Cure’s ‘Jumping Someone Else’s Train’ and its video clip of a rail road filmed backwards from the rear of a train.”
Inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel, the ‘Ludi’ album as a whole explores 4 sociology-based elements of ‘play’ – vertigo (captured in ‘Rollercoaster’), chance, masks and competition (depicted in previous single, ‘Savana, Céline, Aya’).
